Insurance Brief: Virginia DMV Needs Photos

Posted & filed under Insurance Briefs, Virginia Car Insurance.

If you’re one of the 4,200 Virginia residents who applied for a state ID card or driver’s license on August 25th, you’ll probably be asked to go back to DMV to have a new photo taken. Why? Because that was the first day of a computer outage that halted operations for much of the state government. Any photos taken for credentials that day can not be recovered.

While the DMV gave temporary permits or ID card receipts to the applicants who were in their offices on the 25th, the actual credentials cannot be processed without the photographs, but don’t worry: the DMV is sending letters to those customers who will have to return.

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency’s systems were fully restored Thursday.
