Progressive Plants a Million Trees
The national Arbor Day Foundation, and, by extension, American national forests that have suffered damage from disease, insects and wildfires will be getting some much needed financial assistance, courtesy of the customers of Progressive auto insurance who have elected to receive their insurance policies electronically.
The auto insurance company originally started planting trees to build awareness of its paperless plan two years ago in 2007, and since then, over a million customers have signed up for the program.
This year, Progressive will wrapping up the program, when they present the Arbor Day Foundation with the funding for one million trees. The U.S. Forest Service has identified a backlog of more than a million acres in need of replanting, and the Arbor Day Foundation has helped to replant more than thirteen million trees since 1990.
Of Progressives tree-planting incentive, customer experience general manager Christine Johnson says, "Our customers rose to the challenge and now we're following through on our commitment. When we began the tree planting campaign we had no idea where it would end up, but we're pleased it has led to such a significant result."
Also weighing in on the topic is John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, who said, "Encouraging customers to go paperless is a great way for companies to help the environment, and we applaud Progressive for doing it. Progressive's generous donation to plant 1 million trees is truly a significant gift to the environment." He added, "By planting trees in our nation's forests, Progressive is making a positive impact for generations to come."
While Progressive will no longer be offering trees in exchange for paperless document delivery, customers who select this option will receive a discount on their insurance.
