IIHS Embraces Multi-Media

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has been embracing multi-media presentations in the last few weeks.

Last week, they announced change to their website – when you’re looking for crash test results, which are sorted by make and model, you can now follow links to videos showing the actual frontal offset and side impact tests.

The links are generally labeled, “Watch crash test footage for this vehicle on the IIHS YouTube Channel” link on the pages for individual vehicles, although it should be noted that not every vehicle page has a link.

This footage can be incredibly useful for consumers who are shopping for new cars, and want to pick one with high safety ratings, as part of their efforts to keep insurance premiums down.

Speaking of YouTube, yes, you read that correctly. The IIHS now has its own YouTube channel, which can be found at http://www.youtube.com/iihs. It went live in September.

In addition to crash test ratings, the channel also offers safety videos and ratings of automobile related safety devices, such as child safety seats.
