Boyd Sigler, highway safety director for the state of Kentucky, is very pleased that traffic deaths in his state are on track to be the fewest since the early 1990’s.
As of last Wednesday, Kentucky had 739 traffic fatalities, at least according to the state highway safety office’s web site. This is a good improvement over last year’s 791 deaths, which had been the lowest number since 1994.
Sigler credits this change to the fact that Kentucky drivers have been much better about using safety belts and not driving while intoxicated.
Beginning after the first of the year, police in Kentucky will be giving tickets for texting while driving, as well as lack of safety belts, under a new law that was approved earlier this year. Since July, police have been issuing warnings for such infractions.
With fewer traffic fatalities, come lower insurance risks for all Kentucky drivers.
